Fire Safety Week

Fire Safety Week

This week was Fire Safety Week. As we always are, we were lucky to have Fire Chief BJ Liebe on site with the Ladd Fire Truck to participate in our evacuation drill and to present to students. Thank you so much, Chief Liebe, for teaching our students about fire safety and always supporting us here at Ladd School.

Arrival and Dismissal

I want to thank all of our parents and families who have been so supportive and accommodating with our arrival and dismissal procedures. We do understand that it may mean waiting an extra minute but the safety of all our children is our main concern. Thank you for all your efforts.

Just a reminder that breakfast begins at 8:00 am and the doors will not open until 8:00 when supervision begins. Please make sure, even if you arrive early, that you do not let your kids out of the car until 8:00. We want to make sure they are adequately supervised. Thank you.

Immunizations and Health Exams

All student immunizations and health exams are due next week, on October 15th. As many of you know, every district is required to report to the Illinois State Board of Education in October each year, certifying that all students are in compliance. If your child has not turned in the completed health requirements and immunization records by October 15th, they must be excluded from school until they are completed. If you have questions, please contact the office.

Team BuildingCircus Team Building Day

We had our October Team Building Challenge on Wednesday this week. Our students worked to build cannons out of the toilet paper rolls and balloons. Teams worked well together and fun was had by all. We love seeing our older students working to help our younger students complete these challenges and act as role models.

100 Book Challenge100 Book Challenge

We already have our first 100 Book Challenge winners of the year! These four kindergarteners are diligently reading every day and have already met their yearly goal! At this rate they could hit the 300 book mark by the end of the year! Way to go Ariella Coughlin, Roland Kostello, Barret Kostello, and Morgan Cissell!

New Staff

We have a few wonderful new staff members joining us at Ladd School! Taking over First Grade, we welcome Araceli Escatel. Araceli comes to us with a wealth of elementary school experience. She had previously worked as a substitute in third grade, moving to first grade this week. Taking over third grade until Miss Harmon returns is Avery Farrell. Avery completed her teaching degree in the spring and recently finished another longer term substitute position. Finally, we have a new paraprofessional in our SAILS program. Ayla Dawson has been subbing at Ladd since the spring. She is currently working toward her teaching degree in special education. Please join us in welcoming these ladies to our staff and our Ladd Family.

Don't forget, our Junior High PTO Volleyboo Tournament will be Friday, October 23rd. Doors will open at 5:00. This tournament is open to 6th-8th Ladd and Dalzell students and students' immediate families. Teams of 6-8 players may register in the office by Wednesday, October 21st.
