Heat Warning

Parents and students,

As many of you have heard, we are under an Extreme Heat Warning over the next few days with heat indexes of 110 degrees or higher. We want to ensure the safety of all of our students and staff during this time. With our air-conditioned building, we are not concerned about the temperatures within the classroom, however following are several important items to help prepare for the weather this week .

Indoor Recess and PE

For the next 3 days, we will be holding all recess and PE activities indoors to prevent the students getting too warm outside. Students should plan for indoor play during the day, however, temperatures in the morning should allow for normal drop-off procedures and outside play before school.

Extra-Curriculars

All outdoor extra-curricular practices and games will be canceled through Thursday. Games and practices will resume Friday provided temperatures return to a safe and reasonable level.

Bring Water Bottles

All students are encouraged to bring closed water bottles for the classroom and particularly on the bus. The building is equipped with bottle fillers for students to use throughout the day. Please set out water bottles the night before and plan ahead.

Wear Loose, Light Clothing-Bring Layers

Ensure that your child is dressed appropriately. The building is air-conditioned and some of the rooms are quite cool during the day. Students should dress for the hot outdoor weather, but be prepared with a sweatshirt or layers for inside the classroom.

Arrange for Pick-Up

At this time, we plan for normal dismissal times. We will monitor temperatures on the bus and notify parents of any changes to our dismissal plans as early as possible. Parents who are available to pick up their children after school rather than having them ride the bus on these hot days are encouraged to do so. If you are changing your normal pick-up plans, please contact the office and notify staff of the change. Parents can contact Carianne Thrasher at cmthrasher@laddccsd94.com or call the office at 815-894-2363.

We hope you all take precautions to stay safe and cool this week! Please contact the office if you have any questions or concerns.
